"The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets,
concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended
into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it."
— Joseph Smith

My TestimonyI was a missionary for two years for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Now I'm married with a beautiful wife and four children. I currently work for a small company as a computer programmer. As a missionary, our first goal was to be able to share the story of Christ and Heavenly Father appearing to Joseph Smith. I remember many times while sharing this story an incredible peace coming over us and a feeling of joy and grattitude toward God. It was a feeling that lifted our hearts and enlightened our minds; it did not darken or bring our spirits down. Even now as I type this, I feel that feeling and pray that all who read this will humbly seek the truth about Joseph Smith and his incredible vision. Do you know the feeling you have when you have done something that is difficult but that was the right thing to do? I would say it's similar to that, but magnified. It has struck me, especially lately, how having a testimony of Joseph Smith's vision is to also have a testimony that Jesus Christ lives, and that He is the Son of God. This is my testimony, my belief, my hope, and even my knowledge. Sometimes it's difficult to say "I know". But knowing that God lives is a different thing than knowing scientific facts. Godly knowledge comes straight from God through His Spirit directly into your soul and mind. (Scientific knowledge comes through many imperfect studies, tests, data collection, and statistical analysis. It comes through dangerous inductive reasoning about observations, reasoning that derives a "truth" from a small subset of possible observations.) So when I say I know, it is a knowledge I believe came from His Spirit. I love my Savior Jesus for taking my sins upon Himself. I love my Heavenly Father for making the unimaginable sacrifice of sending Him. I love them for showing us that they still live, are aware of us, and are willing to give us more prophets, like Joseph Smith, to help us out in a confusing world. I pray that you may also gain this knowledge from His Spirit by learning, pondering, praying and humbly asking God to reveal the truth of it to you by His Spirit. * The above testimony says nothing about questions, concerns and even doubts about doctrines, practices or historical facts about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. But just because they are not mentioned, does not mean they don't exist. Indeed, my concerns (and those that many others--in and out of the Church--have) were the major reasons behind my creating this web site. |
